3 PESTS TO CONTROL BEFORE THEY CONTROL YOU

Spring is in the air, and that means pests and bugs are coming back from their winter holidays. Let’s look at the top 3 bugs you should get a grip on this season, before they get a grip on your business.

Termites

These little guys live in the soil underneath your business. They’re nimble and quick, and they survive off dry timber – which means their very selective diet can cause some serious structural damage. When the warmer months arrive, they become more active and start looking for new places to eat – and your restaurant could just be top of the list for them!

Warning signs:

  • Mud type deposits on outside walls
  • Wood chips around skirtings, cupboards and other wooden fixtures
  • Visible holes in wooden skirting boards or thinning wooden skirting boards

Ants

After months of being “chill”, ants are looking for new places to settle and new sources of food for their babies. This means that, while they might not set up shop inside your space, they will most likely start a colony close to your restaurant or business – in other words, close to food.

Warning signs:

  • Large black ants in your establishment
  • New ant paths in and around your building
  • Trails of ants leading to the colony

House Fly

House fly? Well, we can just as well call it a business or restaurant fly! Fly eggs and larvae tend to sit dormant in your space during colder months, so when the warm season arrives the house fly is ready to, well, FLY! These guys need moist and warm conditions for their larvae to thrive, which means spring is their favourite season.

Warning signs:

  • Small dark clusters of fly dropings
  • Regular fly sightings around your business
  • Magots around your bins
